...And Then This Happens

Everyone seems to be using Facebook all the time for pretty much everything (and by that I mean virtual farming, sending people virtual faming paraphernalia, challenging each other to quizzes about virtual farming, etc.)  I had started a Facebook account waaaaay back when it intended for University affiliated people.  I lost interest soon after.

In the past few months, the sheer volume of Facebook invites / friend suggestions has coerced me to try and re-enter the Facebook world.  I accepted many of the dozens of friend requests I had and tried to figure out the best way to utilize it other than making it a public declaration of my various fandoms or my prowess at virtual plowing.

Today, my aunt and uncle sent me a Facebook friend request.... FROM THEIR DOG.

Facebook, I am kicking you out of my life again.  I think MySpace has a couch you can crash on at their trailer, but you are not staying here another night.

  1. Yeah, there's no middle ground with FB, it's either all or nothing. It's a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, but it's whacky out of hand.

My rule of thumb is that if I would never dream of having you over for a beer in my own home, I'm not 'befriending' you on FB. Great, I went to high school with you twenty years ago...I didn't like you then, why would I now?

Can you tell how I feel about FB?

  2. I use it to stay in touch with family and post articles I think are interesting. But no farming, no games, no apps. Don't send me any flowers, candy, etc. because I won't accept. I do my time wasting on Twitter (guilty pleasure).

  3. You know, I think there can be a happy medium... it doesn't have to be all or nothing! I visit FB when I have free time or am bored, and often neglect it for long stretches if I HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO. But during the Nashville Mayday Flood last month, it was an enormously useful and entertaining tool while I was stuck inside... amazing flood pictures and videos from friends, updates on folks who'd been flooded and needed help, updates on the mandatory water conservation and when we could start washing clothes and dishes again, stories of such kindness and selflessness that made me tear up... Facebook can be a very good thing; just not all the time!

  4. Yeah, I talk a big game but I'm back on Facebook. I ignore dog friend requests.

I had to add anti-spam measures because, let's face it, almost nobody comments on blogs anymore unless they are spamming. Sorry.
